MTH001 GDB IDEA SOLUTION

Graphs are a useful way of conveying information very quickly

and briefly. With the same ease and efficiency, they help in comparing data over

time and space. They are visual aids and have a powerful impact on the people.

It is often said, "a picture is worth a thousand words". They attract a reader's

attention to what they are supposed to convey about the data. Further, they may

help us to estimate some values at a glance, and serve as a pictorial check on

the accuracy of our solutions.

However, graphical presentation of data, although use in different ways mentioned

above, is only one method of describing data. T ' s cannot and is not a substitute

for other forms of presentation as well as farther statistical analysis. In the following,

we discuss some of the graphical methods of presentation

Graphs are used to plot data, so it is useful to look at types of data first. There

are two main types of variables: categorical / qualitative and numeric /

quantitative.

Within these types are sub-categories that run along something of a continuum.

Categories can be pure and unordered, e.g. species present at a sample site;

complementary, e.g. male / female; or they can be in an ordered sequence, e.g.

chick / juvenile / adult.

By contrast, numbers can have continuous values (e.g. for height or time) or

discrete values (such as counts).

The vast majority of these mining and

retrieval methods rely on data represented as a set of independent entities and

their attributes. However, this approach does not consider a relevant part of

the information in the underlying data, viz. the relationships between different

entities. Graphs, which are in fact one of the most general forms of data representation,

are able to represent not only the values of an entity, but can be used

to explicitly model structural relations that may exist between different parts of

an object .This crucial benefit of graphs recently led to an emerging interest

in graph based data mining.
