Mr. Fahad is Procurement Manager in a manufacturing company. He is attending a phone call from a supplier for the delivery of raw material. While listening to the phone, he receives an important text message from his immediate boss. He went through the text message quickly. Still talking to the supplier, his Secretary reminds him about his appointment with CEO just round the corner. On the other side of the phone, the supplier has just told him about the choices in products and delivery dates. Mr. Fahad realized that he missed listening first two options but due to appointment in few minutes time, he couldn’t request the supplier to repeat the options or request to reconnect later to place the order as it has to be placed today. So, he finalized the third option.

Identify the barrier to effective communication experienced by Mr. Fahad. Give logical reasons to support your answer

Barrier to effective communication in this scenario is Information Overload. Individuals have a finite capacity for processing data, so Mr. fahad has in the given scenario. He has more of the information to be processed so the result is information overload. With phone call, text messages from boss, appointment with CEO , and the need to keep all in one field, so he has overloaded information so he tend to ignore, pass over, or forgetting the information which results in less effective communication.
